Position Title: Financial Analyst I, II, III, or Sr

Position Purpose:

This position will assist in analyzing and conveying to management an understanding of the risks and rewards critical to the achievement of the Cooperative’s financial goals and strategic initiatives. This position will assist with the development of analytical, financial and sensitivity models, perform ad hoc analysis on multiple projects with tight deadlines, complete cost/benefit analysis and project evaluation, and effectively communicate the results. The incumbent will assist in the coordination and communication between various internal teams and experts to incorporate assumptions and perspectives into modeling and project analysis. The incumbent will assist with the annual calculation of the weighted average cost of capital (WACC). As part of the Treasury Division Team, this position will be expected to, as needed, assist other teams within the Division with financial analysis and economic impacts.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in financial analysis and communicates the risks and rewards of a project or initiative to internal and external stakeholders, as applicable.

  • Assists in maintenance of quantitative and qualitative models to perform economic analysis on strategic initiatives directed by senior management and the Board of directors, investment opportunities, capital expenditures, comparative analysis, stress scenarios, operational decisions, and asset valuations.

  • Creates sensitivity scenarios within these models to determine financial impacts. Utilizes the model outcomes to make recommendations and provide direction to management on strategic decisions critical to the ongoing success of Basin Electric and its subsidiaries.

  • Helps coordinate communication between various internal teams and experts to incorporate assumptions and perspectives into modeling and project analysis. Works effectively on a cross-functional basis with colleagues of varying seniority.

  • Applies standard qualitative and quantitative analysis based on metrics and methodologies accepted and supported within the financial community.

  • Assists with asset acquisition, investment, closure, repurposing, and divesture teams and provides financial insight and recommendations based on analysis to support deal negotiations.

  • Supports the Manager of Investor Relations and Financial Analytics with preparation and communication of credit update materials for financial stakeholders and bond rating agencies.

  • Utilizes market research and resources to monitor market trends, consume market data and apply in analysis that leads to decision-lending information.

  • Assists in the annual calculation of the weighted average cost of capital (WACC)\hurdle rate.

Qualifications:

Financial Analyst I:

  • A four-year degree in accounting, finance, business, mathematics, quantitative analysis, or a business-related discipline.

Financial Analyst II:

  • A four-year degree in accounting, finance, business, mathematics, quantitative analysis, or a business-related discipline.

  • 4 years accounting or financial reporting experience.

Financial Analyst III:

  • A four-year degree in accounting, finance, business, mathematics, quantitative analysis, or a business-related discipline .

  • 6 years accounting or financial reporting experience.

Senior Financial Analyst:

  • A four-year degree in accounting, finance, business, mathematics, quantitative analysis, or a business-related discipline .

  • 8 years accounting or financial reporting experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial and business principles.

  • Ability to work in a detailed, time critical environment, and manage several priorities at once.

  • Work effectively in a team environment and assist in the coordination of team events needed to complete a project.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel demonstrating extensive skills in Excel or other modeling applications with the ability to develop complex spreadsheets/models that are capable of compiling and linking data.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and must have the ability to develop and nurture relationships.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines.
