Position Title: Construction Coordinator I, II, or III (DOT - FMCSA - non - CDL)

Position Purpose:

Provide onsite construction management, administration and coordination for new and existing construction. This includes ensuring work is conducted in a safe manner while delivering on budget and on time. In times of minimal workload, the incumbent may be required to work from company headquarters in Bismarck, ND. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Apply knowledge of safety processes by observing and administering safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, promptly notifying management of conditions and unsafe behaviors that may lead to accidents and assist in implementing any needed changes. Observe contractor work practices and notifies the contractor of any practices that appear to be non-compliant with the contract documents.

  • Assist in the oversight of job site construction management to assure projects are managed effectively and the company’s objectives are being met.

  • Review Requests for Information (RFI) and Change Order Request (COR) processes to verify work completed is according to contract documents/specifications.

  • Assist in compilation of close-out documents, including as-built drawings and service manuals turned over from the contractor.

  • Coordinate onsite construction activities between the owner, engineer, contractor, and other involved parties.

  • Prepare weekly written reports on project status and contractor performance regarding safety, quality, progress, and cost.

  • Understand and apply the commercial and technical requirements of the contract documents and provide direction as necessary.

  • Conduct project meetings to review project achievements, and deficiencies.

  • Review and comment on construction contract proposals.

  • Adhere to company Construction Management policies and procedures as they materialize.

Qualifications :

Construction Coordinator I:

  • Four-year degree in engineering, construction management, industrial design or related; and 1 year of onsite industrial construction management experience; or

  • A related two-year degree; and 3 year of onsite industrial construction management experience.

  • Knowledge of civil, electrical, mechanical, and architectural disciplines, as they apply to industrial construction.

Construction Coordinator II:

  • Four-year degree in engineering, construction management, industrial design or related; and 3 year of onsite industrial construction management experience; or

  • A related two-year degree; and 5 year of onsite industrial construction management experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of civil, electrical, mechanical, and architectural disciplines, as they apply to industrial construction.

  • Works independently, as well as part of a team, and effectively responds to continually changing priorities.

Construction Coordinator III:

  • Four-year degree in engineering, construction management, industrial design or related; and 6 year of onsite industrial construction management experience; or

  • A related two-year degree; and 8 year of onsite industrial construction management experience.

  • Strong knowledge of civil, electrical, mechanical, and architectural disciplines, as they apply to industrial construction.

  • Works independently, as well as part of a team, and effectively responds to continually changing priorities.

Other Requirements:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and technical writing skills.

  • Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Able to work independently, as well as part of a team, and respond to continually changing priorities.

  • A valid driver’s license and DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration non-CDL qualified.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires occasional bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds; and frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of keyboard/computer. Finger dexterity, good hearing, and color vision are required. This position requires the ability to analyze data/reports and conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures, and goals; and present information to others. The incumbent may be required to work under pressure due to conflicting priorities and deadlines. Typically, this position works in conditions of dirt/dust, extreme heat/cold, noise, and electrical risks. It may also occasionally work in conditions of fumes, chemicals, vibration, poor ventilation, and confined areas. Continuous travel is required, either by operating a motor vehicle or traveling in cooperative or commercial aircraft. The ability to operate a motor vehicle is required. All project assignments require extended overnight stays involving several days, weeks, or months.
